How playing B2B puts daylight between the
Dons from the Day Dreamers!
A big shout to Internations, Abu Dhabi and fellow back to back DJ Juan Coon.
Start of the night.
The story goes, after turning up as normal knowing the place was booked for special event I got a surprise. An announcement from David Craig, please note: I did not say Craig David, that a stateside US DJ was in Abu Dhabi, and I got asked if its alright if he can use my set up!!!!!
WTF!!! Was my first thought, thats codswallop (I’m British – LOLOL) …I’m bamboozled! Great, the place is heaving tonight and some big shot, up from Dubai is gonna lose the vibe and probably mess up my kit!!!
Now most of the time every question to a DJ is about or somehow related their ego. You all know its true, and I dont like to think I have a rampant ego but just like anyone in any profession there is a little something there. But I decided, you know what, in order to have a stress free night its best to just relax and, well, have a good time with it.
It really doesn’t happen that often in the cramped world of many a DJ booth in UAE. (I,m especially thinking of Sho Sho’s Carribean Restaurant – DIFC Dubai – LOLOLO…what an experience!) where all DJ’s on the bill need to have permissions sorted to play at any particular venue.
Middle of the night
So I cleared some space did some adjustments freeing up an area for his laptop and controller. We lined out into the Pioneer Nexus DJM 900 limited edition mixer and after a couple of technical issues set off to smack up the crowd with our games of turntable tennis.
End of the night
To cut the story short, we destroyed them that night on the dancefloor. The expectations of the crowd change greatly when there are two DJs up there. Also the selection of tunes we were laying down from back in the day and across several genres just had them all bouncing.
Check out the video clips from the night on my instagram @remixkid Instagram Feed. I really do hope to be able to get state side in the near future and take up Juan’s offer to go back to back at some of his legendary 10,000 people parites in the United States.
